I'm a journalist based in Kinshasa, the Democratic Republic of Congo. I contribute regularly to The Economist, The Guardian, National Public Radio and France 24. My work has also appeared in Science Magazine, Wired, The New Humanitarian, African Arguments, AFP and Politico.
Before going freelance in 2024, I was AFP's first English-language correspondent in the DRC. I was also the agency's West Africa correspondent based in Dakar, Senegal between 2019-2022, and before that, I worked as a reporter for Politico Europe in Brussels between 2015-2019.
I am HEFAT certified and have reported from the DRC, Guinea, Liberia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Ghana and Tunisia, among other countries. Reach me at emmet.livingstone@gmail.com.
